Hello,
As a new member of this XJS forum, I have just bought myself
a nice 1985 V12, only driven 86000 km. The car has now allyear
tyres 235/65/15, and I would like to put on new 215/70/15 as original.
Who produce tyres in this size, and what is recomended ??
Cheers,
Ruben Husberg

In the UK about the only one I can find with the required speed rating is a Pirelli P4000.

Welcome to the XJS Forum
Have a look in the general section of this forum, where there are several posts re tyres.
Pirelli P4000 are the Jaguar recommended fit and as kelsham says in the UK cost about £100.00 Sterling each inclusive. They ARE still available from Pirelli but you may have to order them

Its a pity Vredestein don't seem to cover some of the sizes/ratings that we need (considering their excellent sponsorship of the JEC Racing).
Its worth bearing in mind though if you need tyres for any other car in the household they will give a 25% discount to JEC members.
I haven't used the service myself, guess who paid for two expensive Michelin tyres for the wife's Citroen not so long ago

Hi gang,
Thanks for your replays so far.
I have checked here in Norway, but it looks like there is no P4000's
any more here. Our local Pirelli supplier could get them from Germany,
when they got some. So we will see. I will probably take the car to the
UK in October, so If I have not got any until then, I can put them on
the car there.
I had a look on Pirelli UK's webpage, and it says they don't have the
wanted 215/70/15.....
Cheers,
Ruben

Hei Patrick,
Thanks for your tip. It was two weeks to late... as I

for NOK 7600.- in total.....
But the car handles mutch better, and looks better as well.
All the best,

dh,
Wow, that's spooky - I put 2 P6000 225/55 ZR16s on my car yesterday!.....but I only paid £101 each incl VAT.....and I had mine filled with Nitrogen!
However, I assume my speedo now reads incorrectly - see my other post

Ah..........................the old "fill your tyres with nitrogen routine".
Stops them exploding at altitudes above 20,000 feet I believe
Does your local garage have nitrogen top-up facilities
But seriously, yes I believe you will have exaggerated an error - see my other post

dh,
My local tyre dealer installed a Nitrogen "stuffer" (as I believe they are known) some years ago. This was because he was starting to sell a lot of Motorbike tyres.
As you probably know, Nitrogen has two big advantages over air. It apparently doesn't leak as easily (soemthing to do with the particles being bigger?). More importantly, it remains at a far more stable pressure when it gets hot. This is why F1 cars use it. As a lot of us bikers do Track days, having consistent tyre pressures is quite important.
So my tyre dealer gets a lot of business off bikers, both in new tyres and also in filling up tyres before Track days. Apparently, once you've installed the equipment, it costs virtually nothing to run.
You're right dh, once I start topping up with normal air, I'll start to lose the advantage. However hopefully, the mere fact that I start with Nitrogen means that I won't have to top up my tyres so often. He filled the new tyres on my Range Rover 6 months ago and the pressures are exactly the same today as they were 6 months ago!

Pleased to hear that you are pleased........
When I bought my re-furbished rims last year I haven't had to top-up my tyre pressures since...........
As they say............."you pays your money and makes your choice"
Happy that it's working for you
NB Can't go to France on the pre-Xmas Piss -up, can you reccommend a venue for 2008?
Best Wishes
