Which rear shocks to buy to replace the originals?

Simon - I expect that you can't get the driveshafts out of the hubs because they've been Loctited in. This is the standard Jaguar procedure. I have to say that when I take them apart I use copper grease on reassembly and not Loctite. Makes it much easier to get them apart again.
You could try using a puller but often they are in so tight that either it won't work or will break the tool.
My preferred method is an hydraulic press. I thought it worth buying one as I found it very useful for pressing bearings, UJs etc in and out.
