1991 MY XJS 4.0 Coupe Steering will not self center

Hi All, I am new to the forum so please forgive me if this question has been answered before.
Having had my steering rack re-built and after it was re-fitted to the car the steering was not self centering, the garage told me it needed to wear in? Having now done around a 1,000 miles it is still not self centering which is a worry when getting a move on as you have to remember to bring the wheel back to center yourself each time you make any kind of turn.
Any ideas on why this is happening and how to resolve it please?

I don't think the power steering itself does self-centering; I think that it comes from the steering geometry producing unbalanced forces when cornering. I may be wrong ...

If I'm right, suspect badly adjusted tracking - probably a lot of toe-out, probably enough to produce noticeably asymmetric wear on the tyres - you find pictures on the web.

Thanks Paul, I will arrange to get the geometry checked and see if that improves things.
