Steering rack leak

Hi, I have a small leak of power steering fluid from where the steering column shaft enters the top of the steering rack on my pre HE 5.3 V12. The steering rack is otherwise in good condition with no wear/play. Does anyone know if there is a seal that can be replaced or is the only answer a replacment steering rack?

Hi Shaun,

Before running to the expense of replacing the rack try the following: -

Lucas Stop Leak. £8 for a 355ml bottle from local motor factors.

I cannot vouch for it, but there is a guarantee of sorts.

Stop fluid won't help, the seal gets cooked by the heat from the manifold.
The seal is part No. AEU1248 about £4. Fiddly to do, especially on a V12 but it will cure the problem.
I had to change mine some years ago.

Thanks all for the replies, think I'll try the new seal first as there rest of the rack looks in very good condition. Fingers crossed!
