Climate/Heating system

The heater in my 2004 model will only deliver hot air, regardless of the temperature selected. The fans respond to the temperature selected, but the heat level is the same - maximum. The air con itself seems to be ok as the moment the climate is switched on the car is demisted almost instantly. I have just trawled though 3 years magazines, but most owners suffer from a lack of heat, not too much. I suspect a stuck valve or flap. Any and all advice gratefully received.

My appologies for a belated reply. I missed your posting earlier this week for some reason.

Heater valves can fail open or shut.

The valve is located towards the bottom of the radiator area. Apparently 10" long fingers are needed tto remove the old valve. The guy who used to look after J44, said it was a pig of a job.

It leaves me wondering whether access might be easier if the radiator were to be removed from the car.

My knowledge in this area is rather thin I am afraid. Perhaps contact with David Marks or a local Jaguar repair shop might prove benificial in this instance.

Hi guys

I have different problem and I may" have mentioned this last winter" my heater blows about 5 or 6 degrees cooler on the drivers side it`s the same if the air con is on or off.
Any ideas.

On the passenger side of the control console, there is a button for dual driver/passenger control. This may be set to give the passenger control of his area. Push the button again and you may then be able to control both areas from the drivers side. That seems the most logical reason.

Thanks for the reply Mike but its not that.
The temp for both sides on the console screen are the same ie 23 deg`s its just that the drivers side blows a bit cooler all the way through the range.

I had this problem with one of my cars (not a Jaguar) and it turned out to be an air flap not moving as it should. Dealer fixed it under warranty.

Thinking this through again, I wonder if just one of the two motor units on the water tap unit may have partially failed.

If you get an assistant to work the dash temperature switches in the car, you should hear the motor(s) working if you burrow into the front of the engine bay.

Thanks for the replies.
After further playing around it seems that both sides stay the same temp regardless of temp settings ie passengers side stays warm not hot and drivers side stays warmish.
When the aircon is used on its own in warm weather it works fine ie nice cold air I think somethings stuck somewhere along the line.

Does anyone know if you can do a self test on this sytem. Iv`e been on the XK Forum and found a test but it doesn`t work on the S Type.

I think you may have to go the diagnostic machine route with that, Jeff. Some of the cheap code reader units might however throw up a fault code which is then often fairly easily checkable.

Its highly possible that this problem lies with the heater valve Iv`e looked on Ebay but can only find petrol engine valves. Iv`e looked on David Manners site but the diesel valves are a lot more expensive.
You would think that the valve would be the same wouldn`t you.

There are two or three different types of valve. I believe the post facelift cars have three pipes but check against the vin number of your car. Last six alpha numeric.

Note Nev also sells most of the common use parts for many modern Jaguars. Wishbones, belts, tensioners etc. Highly recommended supplier and one of the good guys in the business.

Took the car to an indipendant specialist. He checked it out and confirmed it was the heater valve
(only charged me twenty quid)
Gave Neville a ring and the parts on its way.
