Replacing stereo in early S Type

I am posting some pictures just to give people an idea that it is quite feasible to upgrade the original stereo in the early S type without too much hassle if they feel the need. The central unit with radio/cassette draw/ Heater controls comes out as one unit, there are four 8mm bolts. Once out it is easy to work on inside in the warm and dry. I have gone for a double din unit (larger type radio) of which there are many available on the market and the improvement in sound quality is nothing short of amazing. (I upgraded the speakers last year) If you fit a double din unit you have to fix the stereo in the space without its supplied cage as the space is slightly smaller. I fitted some old square nuts to act as washers to provide the extra space needed, when tightened up the new stereo is held securely. I also put some double sided tape under the metal cross plate to give some extra security. The coin tray underneath needed some modification to help it all fit, it is necessary to trim off some raised plastic moulding (I used pliers) so the draw will open and close ok. Hopefully the attached pictures will help explain this. I could waffle on for ages, if anybody wants more information or advise please feel free to ask.

My car didn't have the premium sound. I have changed all the door speakers to nice quality pioneer ones which was easy to do and a big improvement.
