Sat Nav Discs 'Again'

Hi All, I know there has been an earlier post on 'updated sat nav discs' but ive just found a site on e bay selling 2012 discs at £9.99 inc postage !, i know the old adage of you get what you pay for but has anyone any experience of these discs ? will they damage original head unit etc ?, i dont use the sat nav very much but if these discs are any good they appear excellent value as an update !, looking at the feedback they recieve they seem too good to be true ! is that always the case ?. Well Gary, That is interesting. I would like an updated disc but what penalties might be involved.

Not too many new roads are built in this country so I suppose we can live with it but I do get fed up with driving accross ploughed fields in France (according to Nellie the navigator) no not "her indoors."

I shall keep an eye on this topic and see what develops.

I cannot resist commenting that I it is poor show that an updated disc is not available from the Franchiased dealer

Hi Oldtimer, il let you know what the outcome is as for the sake of a tennner im going to give it a try, as stated dont use sat nav much and ive got a stand alone one anyway in other car so if its no good only a few quid down !, by the looks of the feedback the sites received it appears a good deal but we shall see.

Hi Oldtimer, well after doing what i should have done first and read the sales garb properly it appears it is only on 2003 onwards model years and as mine is a 2000 its probably no good !, oops, end of post i think.

I think that is once again a case of the model (my) year confusing tag, for some parts descriptions 2002 cars are called 2003 model year.

Gary, do you have the Alpine premium sound system and the large touchscreen Sat Nav.

I know the 2002 Disc which has the code AD on the serial number, covers S Types 01/02
I believe the earlier systems were CD Rom and 2002 on were DVD with the Telematics System, which means you can borrow a newer disc from someone and update the Firmware (only) on your system though it still reads the old Maps from your Disc when you put it back in, one of the advantages is that in older firmware you must be stationary to set a destination, in the newer Firmware you can do this on the move, or so I have been told.

hi montana5 / oldtimer, Sorry about late reply, not ignoring you, got a new job were i go to work on monday and sometimes out all week (like this week) ! .No not touch screen sat nav but an early one with buttons underneath so not sure i can update it. Hmm wife says she knows what you mean and do the same to her, not sure what shes on about but then thats probably the answer too !. thanks Gary

I am a new member and have had my 2005 S Type since September. I bought a disc on ebay UK & Western Eurpoe 2012 for S Type FOR £9.99, and had no problems with it at all.

Hi Bernie, all feedback said the discs were good but with mine being a 2000 the units are different and the discs only work on post 2003 cars, just have to keep letting the other half map read and blame me when we get lost !, cheers, Gary
