Throttle pot for early 3.6

My throttle pot looks goosed. I have taken it to bits and the tracks are worn through. AJ6 dont do their kits anymore so I was wondering if anybody out there has fitted a different TPS to their early XJS's. Does the newer (post 86) red TPS fit to the earlier throttle bodies?
Would another make of TPS fit if it had the same resistance range.

I am quite willing to make up a bracket or two to fit a different TPS but I was just hoping someone has found one out there that has been a succesful fit.

I know its been a while since I posted but I fell out of love with the cat for a year.

Cheers for any help

Jon

David Manners list them (EAC7341) on their website in three flavours, although from the delivery times they don't appear to have any in stock...

There's quite a good discussion of repairs/replacement/substitution in Kirby Palm's book, pages 297 to 299.

Cheers for the reply mate.

I think that part number is for the the newer version which is the one I was going to try and fit to my throttle body. I was hoping somebody had fitted one to an early XJS before i spent out and found it does not work. I have read about the repairs in the XJS bible but my throttle pot is truely goosed. Two of the contacts have worn through the carbon and the contact points on the wipers have worn as well. I could make a complete new wiper I suppose but hopefully some one has had experiance with fitting the newer version to an older throttle body.

I'm in the process of replacing my 1991 V12's throttle pot. It was the later red version. As far as I can tell, it and all its superseding versions are no longer available from Jaguar Heritage, and various stockists all want too much money for other versions that are probably very old stock.

I've found what looks to be a valid replacement, stock no 319-310 for about £38+VAT from RS Components. The original red one has about 120 degrees travel (not 90 as several sources claim), of which about 100 degrees actually did something, and was spring-loaded. The replacement is the same, except 5k Ohms rather than 6k, but it has a different profile and needs a 6mm "D" shaft drive, so I need to make an adapter.

Paul,

That sounds like a very good alternative mate :D . Why did we pick car packed with Lucas electronics :( . RS dont have any in stock at the moment but I am going to order on back order. At that price i dont mind playing with it and making up an adaptor to make it fit. I did not fancy doing it with a £100 item. Let me know how you get on mate
