Hello all, does anyone know the difference between black fuel tank from an 87 3.6 coupe to the green fuel tanks found in a 89/ 90 3.6?
The part numbers are different, but would it be possible to fit the black tank into a cart that has a green tank currently?

Re: Difference between black and green fuel tanks 87-89 3.6
the XJS came with a green ( olive type green ) tank originally
there were issues with it, and the later black tank had a few modifications, such as the fuel outlet fitting ,
this is where it can get confusing, as all XJS's with a green tank should have been recalled and had a black tank installed, this didn't happen so there is a large mix of both covering all years up to about 1990 when the black was fitted as standard ( not sure on exact date )
so this means you can find an older car with a replacement black tank , and a slightly newer one with a green tank
but to answer you question either tank will fit either car for the same body shape,

That's excellent, thanks!
What about the different parts numbers for the VIN range mentioned above? Normally there are changes?
