TWR Two-Tone Colour?

Postby AlastairCM » Thu Feb 07, 2013 12:17 pm

Does anyone happen to know what paint colour was used for the silver part of the TWR two tone paint scheme which covers the bodykit and lower part of the car?

I'm assuming TWR used one of the Jaguar standard paint colours rather than a special colour? The plate in the door only shows the original car colour and there is nothing in the car's paperwork that gives a hint of what the silver colour is. Otherwise I'm going to have to go through trial and error to match it(and hope it hasn't been resprayed with a different silver since 87, I know the solant blue part is still as per exact Jaguar paint code).

I need to patch up some gouges in the front underside of the bodykit where my wife managed to ground it on a kerb  and it will require a spray touch up once filled.

Hello AlistarCM,

I'm trying through my contacts to find out what I can, but just a thought, have you asked Heritage?

Regards,

Mike

Hi Mike

Do you mean getting a heritage certificate? As far as I'm aware (having been told so a couple of times) the heritage certificate does not contain any relevant TWR details. On the basis the silver paint was applied by TWR when the bodykit was fitted post manufacture of the car, like the door post badge I assume the heritage certificate would only refer to the Solant Blue paint colour as the colour applied on manufacture.

I'd also been told that heritage does not really hold much information on TWR other than what is already publically available.

Hi Alastair,

not the Heritage cert. I was wondering if they had captured all of the sales order information and hence build record details of cars converted at TWR and that therefore, they might have some notes on customer paint choices.

For example: Solent over Silver Birch or Talisman Silver for example (which were the two Jaguar silvers available in 1987/8)?

They probably haven't but would be worth contacting them by 'phone or Email to ask.

Alternatively, buy a sample can of each of the two Jaguar silvers and use a test piece of metal / ext. trim to test? There is no guarantee it was a Jaguar colour accepted, but it would seem a logical thing to have done.

Regards,

Mike

Hi Alistair,

an up-date. I've had to buy a TWR look-a-like to get the question answered by Jaguar (!) but my new acquisition for restoration / conversion (hatch #2) is a 1987 V12 in Dorchester Grey over Talisman silver (MDF). A bit like our web photo. from the TWR sales brochure (but that's probably Tungsten).

Hope this helps.
