front fog-lights/ driving lights on TWR bodykit ?

Postby Brakebuster » Sat Dec 15, 2012 9:15 pm

if you have been following my rebuild after the new paint job you will see i have a genuine TWR bodykit fitted to my '89 XJS coupe

the thing is , i have two brand new Hella yellow driving lights with the black jaguar growler covers ,

my problem

do i fit the lights , or leave the front looking clean and uncluttered ? and there are very few pics on the net of cars with them fitted.

i have offered them up , and the only real place to mount them is in the mouth of the lower grill section , but they do tend to stick out a little , or is it just a case of getting used to them ?

FYI , the car is full wired for front driving lights from new , and had them mounted before the rebuild

Hello BB,

personally I would leave them off, low slung lights are pretty ineffective.

well, to be honest, i'm in a fuddle about them

as they are brand new units with genuine `jaguar growler covers they are worth a lot of money , between £450 and £600 on ebay , but whether anyone will pay that is another matter ?

and i can fit modern LED low profile units that wouldn't be noticed until they were switched on

and the potential money could pay for my new tyres i need

Can`t knock the logic of that, Vince.

Lets face it, you have nice clean lines on that car and bolt on additional bits look just that.

I`d certainly try to bang the lamps out for a reasonable figure and gain a set or part set of decent tyres in the process. Makes eminent sense.

Are they really worth that sort of money?
I have a pair brand New Old Stock, white lensed with mounting brackets, instructions and growler covers, bought them a few years ago for a car, never fitted them, sold the car, you know how it goes.
Wow if I could get half that sort of money I'd sell them in a heartbeat!

But I wouldn't fit them to your car, they'll get stoned, and they ruin the lines, go for the modern peek-a-boo style, noone will know they're there, but you've got additional lighting if it's necessary. (my tuppence worth!)

BTW, I love the car, you've certainly done it right! Well done!

my shout would be leave them off, the car looks so clean and right as it is, bolt on bits will look like bolt on bits even if they are a genuine item, and, how often will you use the car when the extar lights will be needed, my XJ12 has front fog/driving lamps fitted in the front aior dam, correct items, never used them in 14 years of ownership!

I agree with every one else, leave them off. Now you have a dilema, every body says, leave them off. Let us know what you do!
Even number plates seem to be something of an after thought
