Hello all,
Drivers door handle is broken.
After stripping the door handle mechanism and door card I can see the handle is attached to and lifts a small piece of metal that rotates against another part that unlocks the door. Apologies for the technical description...I have no idea what the bits are called. Its the small piece of metal that has snapped due to age and use. There is a metal coil attached to it. I would attach a pic but don't know how!
Has anyone any idea where I might get a spare other than SNG etc as they have nothing?
Regards
David

Hi David,
Are you looking at that piece of metal at the top with its spring?
Totally forget about getting a new part.
You might have to buy at an auction site a good used complete door handle or get lucky if a JEC member has a spare metal piece and is willing to let you have it.
Saying that...I would probably use the old one as a pattern and make my own one out of steel or stainless but the same thickness.
I find I am doing this more now with these cars ,although there are plenty now being broken-up.
I think the XJ40 door handles might be the same ,to widen your search.
Good luck.

Hi Nick,
Yes indeed, thats the piece.
Your wise words are well received. So much so I have found someone who will make me a new piece.
Living in Jersey its very much a case of not what you know rather who.
Thanks again. The forum to the rescue.

Re: 1995 door handle mechanism
Hi,
I have taken the handle to two metal fabricators. Its beyond repair.
But, Simply Performance stepped up and sent me two used handles which were in excellent condition. Drivers door will be fitted next week.

Re: 1995 door handle mechanism
i had to pull mine out and clean them up as locks had become difficult to operate and one of the lock solenoids had given up the ghost. I think is one of the most fiddly jobs you may possibly encounter on the XJS, so will take lots of patience and there will be some choices words said I am sure!
