xj-s longer on one side then the other

In the April JEC magazine, on page 27 Derek Waeland suggests that the xj-s body is half an inch longer on one side then the other.
I can't seem to work that one out, any suggestions? I know that the door mirrors are offset so that vision is correct, but do the sides vary in length?
