Hello all,
I was in France last weekend and on Friday night got caught in a thunderstorm. So heavy was the rain that the engine almost cut out and I lost the under tray and most of the plastic fittings that attach to the n/s wheel liner.
The spoiler itself suffered considerable damage to the underside.
Simply Performance can supply a new under tray but I will also need a new lower spoiler and attached plastic casing.
My question is, do I need the tray? Research suggests its function is mostly aerodynamic.Does anyone run without one?
Regards
David

I cannot see which model you have - mine is a 95 facelift and I lost my under tray on A11. I made up a replacement out of aluminium - in my case it looks to add considerable strength to the spoiler/bumper. Without it, the large plastic bumper ia flimsy and I suspect would be easily damaged if you hit a high curb without the under tray to provide additional rigidity.
Re: Undertray and spoiler
The front aerodynamics stuff was to prevent lifting at speed. Possibly only extreme speed - after all, a old V12 can do over 140 mph if you have the nerve (see a certain Top Gear episode) - but possibly dangerously light steering at 70 or so.
