Many years ago, my XJS obviously had a car phone fitted. Pretty much all that remains is a little aerial seemingly glued to the rear windscreen. It's in two parts with one part stuck to the outside of the glass and one part on the inside.
How do I remove this without breaking the glass (and with leaving it tidy)?
Any ideas?

dave,
there are two good ways to do this
1, use a length of strong fishing line to ' saw ' throught the sticky pad behind the aerial mount, then use some elbow grease to remove remaining sticky stuff
2 , use a hair dryer to gently warm it up and gently pull it off the screen,
No2 is the cleanest way to do this job , but be carefull you dont concentrate the heat in just one place,
this method also works on stuck on car badges and coach lines ,

No 2 worked fine for me in the same situation, tho it is surprising how well glued on these aerials are!
Take it easy with the heat gun/hairdrier and apply a steady, but strong pressure, it might help to get it started at the edge with a feeler gauge etc. Once the glue gives at the edge it will peel off SLOWLY with gentle heat and steady but firm pressure.
You can easilly clean off any glue residue with meths. etc.
Thankfully they did not employ the "drilled glass" method

PS BB hope you're ok, drop me an e-mail if you get time

Thanks for that. I've just used an adaptation of the fishing line method (with steel wire instead) and prised gently with a screwdriver. No worries - ta.

Glad you removed it sucessfully. I've a similar aerial stuck on the rear window but have decided to leave it there as I feel it is part of the cars '80s history.
(Either that or I can't be bothered to take it off!)
