This is my first post so here goes.
I'm doing a light renovation on a "recently running" XJS I managed to pick up. The panels inside the wings were shot (the original ali ones) so I decided to change them. No major problems there but when I removed them from the near side, it appears the expansion bottle (the rectatangular one) has leaked over time and destroyed this area.
I've managed to remove most of the rust (the picture attached was before I finished tidying it up) and am ready to start patching it back up but I have no idea of what the expansion bottle attachements look like.
Does anyone have a shot of how this should look?
Thanks in advance,

well......
the bracket for the atmospheric recovery bottle ( the expansion bottle is in the engine bay ) is a simple ' U ' shaped affair that is flat on the bottom , holds close to the sides of the bottle, and has a rubber strap over the top to keep it in place, fixing wise is a self tapper into the repair you have to do with a piece of foam to stop rattles, this holds the water and helps the plinth to rot out ,
i dont have a picture of the bracket , but do have some of the repair on mine , pictures of the bracket can easily be found at the JDHT part number CAC3678,

repair section ( from an old bonnet lol)

in place before welding

Re: Near side inner wing behind the wheel - Advice required
On my 3.6 I found the atmospheric recovery bottle didn't actually do anything so I ditched it many years ago and ran the vent pipe to exit well clear of any bodywork.
Maybe the V12 needs it, but I've now run mine for thousands of miles without any ill effect on the coolant level or operation.

Mines a V12 and I ditched a few years ago as it is a good source of corrosion.

BB,
Thanks for the pictures and the advice. I was worried that there was some elaborate fixing system (I couldn't tell as there really wasn't anything left of mine) that required some delicate fabrication. I haven't done anything like this before and I've seen some of the engineering solutions else where on the car.
Pop rivet, BigCatXJS,
I'm not confident enough at the moment to ditch it altogether but I'll bear that in mind for the future.
