Service schedule

Sorry, me again! F-Pace 250D AWD - 2017

My service indicator says "service in 1150 miles" so I contacted the dealer to get it booked in. It's 12 months and 20,000 miles since I had my last service. The next service on the list is 84K miles / 96 months - I am currently at ~75K miles and 88 months old.
I was delighted to hear from the dealer that I am in no rush to get the service done - and that I can wait until I get closer to the 84K miles (which I reckon is about 5 months away.
"It's on a 24 month service schedule" they say.
"What about the service indicator?" I say. "Ignore it" the say.
"What about my warranty?" I say. "No problem" they say.

I'm a little nervous...what do we think?

Do you have in writing, from a suitably authorised person, about the warranty being okay? If so then I would run it past the insurance people just to check they are as happy with it as the dealer appears to be (and get it confirmed in an e-mail). If you don't have it in writing then it didn't happen.

I would either find another dealer who can do the service earlier or, better, an independent Jaguar specialist who will be cheaper and more customer focused. Ideally you want one who can update the Online Service History. Whereabouts in the country are you?

If I was you I would also ignore the Jaguar service schedule and get the engine oil changed every 6 months if you are doing that sort of mileage. Mine is changed every year, but I only do 3-4K miles in that time.

I agree with everything from Lucky. I know modern engines have advanced a long way, but 24 months on a Diesel engine is quite harsh, especially if you are doing in the region of 20k miles per annum. The whole point of the clever system for service intervals in a car these days is to remind those who would otherwise tend to forget that a service was due. Trust the car more than the dealer.

Agreed. Your oil will be absolutely black after even 12,000 miles, let alone 20,000 miles It's well overdue. I change the oil on my diesel C-class Merc every 6,000 miles.

As I always say, Oil is cheap; Engines, Gearboxes and Diffs are expensive.

Thanks everyone. I have pulled the service forward to avoid any nasty warranty surprises - I absolutely agree that unless it is written down it never happened!
A complication was that 13K miles ago I had a new engine (there's a story for another time) under warranty. So although the 'car' has done 20K miles since the last service (12 months ago) the engine has only done 13K since replacement in May. The dealership informed me (a different person) that the engine oil counter is different to the 'car' counter, so my air, fuel, and pollen filters are due even though one might argue the engine is not. And yes I could delay the service. But of course there is no such thing as "changing the oil too early or too often". So I've brought it forward - the engine oil will be changed 'early' but that's no bad thing for a new engine.
I did speak to a local specialist who also recommended the same service (i.e. 84K miles / 96 months) even though I have reached neither. My interpretation of the service schedule is 21K miles OR 24 months. I would agree with you all that leaving longer than 24 months, even if I have not done the miles, is not a great idea!
