I’ve had a letter telling me to book in my 5 year old vehicle for a security update. Anyone know anything about it?

Re: Security update recall
Good morning Steve.
I have not had any other members contact me about this specific recall. However, I do know that JLR have been working on updating the security accross the range of their vehicles, especially as Range Rovers had become a particular target for the 'keyless relay' entry method of theft.
I was told that the I-Pace had a technology called Ultra Wide Band (UWB) which greatly reduced the risk of theft due to the key being in the house and thieves using a radar relay device to open and drive away the vehicle. With the UWB technology the car can detect if the actual key is not within the boundry of the car and not allow it to start. (not sure that it is 100% effective)
Fitting this technology may be the idea behind this recall for the older vehicles or it could be due to the JLR security on their main computer servers being updated, which is something else that has been happening recently.
I have also just been alerted to a form of theft that can be performed by reprogramming the car, through the OBDII port, to recognise another key. Apparently OBDII port locking can be carried out by owners to stop this. A 3rd part application of this seems a bit risky to me but could be an option is completed by JLR.
Do you have a number for the security recall?
Kind regards
Paul

Re: Security update recall
JLR have recently issued a bulletin which says, "JLR have developed a software enhancement to the Body Control Module (BCM) which prevents thieves hacking the keyless entry system and driving away without a key." The bulletin is applicable to 2019 -2020 MY F-Pace, XE and XF cars. Mike.
