E Pace spacesaver wheel

Just read the article by Barry Hack where he decided against an E Pace because of no spare wheel. (JEC Mag Aug '19)

Maybe things changed recently because I priced up a 200PS last week and a spacesaver was a £200 option.

I decided not to order by the way, great car, but I couldn't take the £20,000 depreciation over 3 years so for now, I will run my utterly reliable and economical Citroen into the ground and keep the XJ-S as a weekend car.

The parts system for the E-Pace lists two space saver spare wheels (one steel, one alloy?) and stowage units designed to contain either space savers/jacks or the tyre repair units. As Al says, the key is to specify a spare wheel when ordering a new car. Buying the items afterwards from Jaguar is much more expensive. The alternative is to register with one of the specialist car breakers and ask to be notified when they have a vehicle with a spare etc. Mike.

Ah, that makes sense Mike.
Typical that the housing varies. I assume the one that houses a wheel means losing boot space.

Worth reminding readers that a tyre with even a simple puncture can't be repaired if the slime package has been used. So you end up buying both another tyre and repair kit although I assume some/many forget to replace the kit?

Yes, the space-saver robs the E-pace of boot space. You pay your money... Personally, all my cars have spare wheels, even if some are only space-savers. The number of horror stories of blown sidewalls etc that don't stand a cat in hell's chance of being repaired with the sealant slime mount all the time. I'll only feel comfortable without a spare when we move to airless tyres and only then when they've been shown to survive the usual rigours of UK potholes and multiple kerbings! Mike.
