Anyone tried EBC Greenstuff pads?

Postby GlennH » Fri Apr 14, 2006 9:02 am

Folks,

I keep seeing adverts for EBC Greenstuff (and Red Stuff) brake pads.
The Green Stuff ones are supposedly low/no dust (which I find a little difficult to believe knowing how brake pads normally work).

I wondered if anyone has tried them. Are they as dust free as they claim?

Like most XJ-Ss, my front wheels get covered in brake dust after just one journey using the Jaguar pads. It would be good if they could stay clean for a bit longer.

Regards,
Glenn.

Glenn,

I use them on my XJS and am very impressed with them. I've used them previously on other vehicles including a Range Rover and a Triumph TR6. I wouldn't say that they are completely dust-free, but they are very, very much better than whatever compound that Jaguar use.

More importantly I think is the better feel that they give particularly when braking hard from speed when heat has built up. In their advertising material, they seem to make a virtue of their characteristics at high temperatures. Overall, I'm very happy with them and will fit them again when they are due for replacement.

Greenstuff = Goodstuff

Altough not an XJS owner, as the first Mk2 (340) to have EBC greenstuff pads fitted in UK, I would echo what Paul has said.

For me the benefits are,
considerably less dust on my wires
much better brake balance, especially in the wet
overall greater efficiency

One of the better mods to my car

Many thanks Gentlemen.

I think I'll give them a go when my Jag ones are due to be replaced. It can't be that long judging by the amount of dust that appears after every journey... I guess it takes a lot out of a pad having to stop 1.8 tonnes with a V-12 still pushing through the auto box...

Cheers,
Glenn.

I have seen adverts for these pads. Are they more expensive than "normal" pads and do they last as long ?

Hello all,
I use Red Stuff pads and they can be a little wodden when cold, but very good at stopping when hot.
So far I have done 4 races and 2000 road miles, a bit un representative, but they have worn to about 60%. But races are very hard on the brakes, even for a rubbish driver like me!
I did like the fact that they dont fade, even when on fire! I reccorded post race rear disc temperatures (after a cool down lap and the slow drive back to the paddock) of over 300 C.
On the road, they do seem to produce less dust too.
Just a shame they are so expencive. I got mine from the EBC web site, i think it was 119 quids for a front and rear including postage. Which is a lot.

Dont know if that helps,
Cheers
Ralph

I agree with Tel - I have the celebration and it stops just fine (no Anvil!!)and I do not seem to notice huge amounts of brake dust?? If the price of the green stuff came down then I might be interested - could be by shopping around they can be found cheaper?
