ABS Warning Light on...

Postby SimonR » Fri May 07, 2010 9:41 pm

Hi chaps,

Please forgive the double-posting but I know that vastly more people frequent this board than the XJ one and hopefully the brake system on a '40 is similar enough to that of the XJS...

Anyway, I've asked a question about ABS sensors here

Any ideas?!

Thanks all....

ABS Warning Light on...

Postby ptjs1 » Sat May 08, 2010 1:05 pm

Simon,

I can't see clearly from the photo, but if that wire is supposed to be attached to the ABS sensor on the hub, then it will cause the ABS light to stay on all the time. I don't know if the XJ40 uses a brake pad wear indicator. which it could be, but I doubt it.

If I were him, I would check to see if his ABS sensor is connected and start there. It is important that he does this, first of all because it's an MOT failure but more importantly because if his light is on, then his ABS circuits won't be working. Heaven forbid it happens, but in the case of him having an accident, the insurance company wouldn't be too happy about this...

Good luck
