I am browsing e bay at this very moment 25 pages of search results for xjs bits, a good night in i would say! (yes i know i am sad)

Any way as i was browsing, and looking at some brake bits, disks in particular i thought 2 myself! :?: :?:

Whats to stop ya, making your own sports disks, by drilling loads of holes into your standard ones?

Ok off you go and start laughing or taking the piss now if you like, i can take it.

FYI - taken from a forum (Team Integra):

Drilled is what it sounds like, theres holes drilled in it. You SHOULD NOT do that youreself, as simply drilling holes in the rotor, instead of them being cast or forged in will cause the rotors to crack in no time. Even originally drilled rotors are not as durable as blanks. Slotted roters, if not reffering to internally vented, are rotors with slots cut into them. Drilling and slotting do not serve to cool the rotor very much, they are done to provide a path for gasses formed while braking to escape. Cooling is a fucntion primarily of simple surface area, and the cooling fins built inbetween the rotor faces. For daily driving the best rotors are blanks that you can get from napa/autozone/schucks etc. Rotors are a wear item, and unless you road race you're car, blank rotors will suffice 99% of the time, will last longer, and will be cheaper to replace. If you want to reduce brake fade for the street, invest in some good quality street/auto-x pads like the EBC green stuff. Do not make the mistake of buying race pads, as race pads need to be hot to be effective, and daily driving they will probably land you a fender bender.

I had an amusing experience last June on the 'Entente Cordiale' when, after a strenuous run over mountain passes , my front brakes began to act unevenly on the run into our base in Strasbourg. I mentioned it to Ken Jenkins who insisted that I bring the car up from the underground parking onto the hotel frontage where their service van was . He had it jacked up in a flash and stripped the calipers, freed the pistons off, then produced some new pads which were carefully fitted. I said I was surprised that they had them on board for the XJS , then Ken told me that the pads are the same as those in a Renault Trafic van. He had found this out some years previously when he visited a french parts supplier, worn out pads in hand, hoping to find some new ones which would fit. The part nos. are the same and they are Mintex. My brakes are now perfect.

See the September notes Lincs North region for a shot of my car outside 'Chez Lisette'. Paul.

Just thought prevention is better than cure.

Buy drilled disks dont drill your self as I would suspect you may have a disc balance problem after you have put many holes in them.

Regards Mark the incinerator.
