Brake lights staying on

I thought I noticed that my "high level" brake light stayed on for a split second. Then thought, just the sunlight catching the lens etc. But today I noticed again that my brake lights were not always but sometimes remaining on (light focused on the rear wall of the garage). Tap of the pedal and they go out as well as lifting pedal upwards having the same effect.

My immediate thought being the brake light switch (potentiometer). Before I go out and buy a new one at £100.00+ has anyone had anything similar happen to them?

Sticking switch? Try some WD40 on it first before spending any money.
