The orange ABS light stays on all the time the level check light comes on but goes off after a few seconds.
Servo system cuts in and out so with out putting preasure gauges on must presume this is ok and the accumulater also. (Breaks good).
Have changed the relay near the ECM (Boot LHS).
Have cleaned and checked connections on each wheel sensor would like to know if there is a way of testing these (In a ship yard Germany so have the tools).
The sensors for the rear wheels are working in grease would this affect it.
Have done all the cheap work I think next step is to clip into a diagnostic there are a few expensive bits here so want to be sure.
New topic rebuilt the engine and normal use fuel cons is about 17/gall (Comments) which is more than befor its manual with AJ6 goodies and goes well oil cons half litre 2,500 miles have just got snap on scangas will have a play let you know.
Thats it have to fine the AC leak know. Neil.

There's a diagnostic procedure detailed in the ROM involving blink codes from the warning light. Unfortunately the interpretation is seven pages long so you really need to get a copy of the manual (on CD-Rom from the JDHT for £16 or so.)
Basically you insert a shorting link into the econoseal plastic connector next to the ABS ECM between the black and the brown/pink, then switch the ignition on and record the blinks.
If the stored fault was intermittent or transient, reading the codes and then driving above 19 mph may clear the warning light without further action. If not the actions to resolve the issue indicated are given in the ROM.

Thanks for that I have the CD rom and had forgot so guess what I am doing this week end.
Cheers Neil.

Put the link in and could get no codes up (ECU Failure).
Did all the checks with resistance every thing was ok.
The fault has gone but must presume the ECU could be on the blink.
Will test ABS and look at getting a spare ECU.
Thanks for that Acmel. Neil.

Neil,
My guess is that most ABS systems are set up to default showing a fault light if there is a problem.
So, if the ECU has packed up, I think the light would definitely come on. I think this is also the case if one disconnects the ecu. Therefore, I wouldn't rush into buying an ecu just yet as I suspect the fault might lie elsewhere. Wheel sensors can be a bit hit and miss as to whether they are seated properly. Problems like this can cause the light to be a bit erratic.
Just hope the problem doesn't come back!

Hi Neil
I'm not sure if I understand you but my abs light comes on for a few seconds when I first switch on, I can hear a quiet pumping sound which comes from the area of the pressure vessel, left side scuttle area, hn the light goes off and stays off; I thought this was normal; if not can someone let me know please.
On your second point I too have had fitted the AJ6 Engineering kit and have been impressed with the results, both performance (which is much sharper) and fuel consumption which has improved from 13-14 mpg to 18. Thanks go to Jaguar Classic Spares in Waltham X for the fitting and fettling.
