I wondered if I was seeing things today having put the first diesel fuel in the tank after collecting the car last week with half a tank of fuel.
I kid you not but it looked like smoke was coming out of the filler neck as I filled up. Surely this is not something that is normal. We have had a number of diesel cars which my wife favours but never seen fumes/smoke like vapour coming out of the filler neck as the fuel goes in. Am I missing something here I wonder? Is this an XE thing?.

It certainly doesn't happen with my petrol version! Mike.

Internet suggests the smoke like vapour is normal according to Jaguar for the XE diesel. It's supposed to be related to the tank warming the fuel prior to delivery into the fuel system and the colder fuel going into the tank as you fill up generates the vapour like fumes.
Imagine that with petrol. Been filling up the wife's diesel tank for years with no such vapour. If Jaguar XE diesels do warm the tank contents first I wonder why given combustion still relies on compression ignition.
