Smell of urine while air con on

Since I purchased this XE 2.0 diesel R Sport around a month ago I have noticed the unmistakeable odour of urine while the air con is running.

It's starting to annoy me and ruining the experience of an otherwise impressive car. I'm assuming it has something to do with this adblue system feeding this urine based product into the exhaust system and maybe because the huge bucket that sits in the engine bay and linked directly to the exhaust pipework that maybe the air con is sucking in vapour from the engine bay and feeding it into the vents. I can no longer drive with the upper vents pointing at head height.

Anyone experienced this?. I have contacted my local Jaguar dealer with a view to taking it in and for them to at least investigate this problem.

I have not experienced that particular smell, although a mad a musty smell in my S-Type when I got it. I purchased the Autoglym Air Con cleaner. It comes in a box and found it cured my problem, dirt cheap and only took 30 mins!

Dealer confirmed the smell in my car when air con is running cold. Not related to the adblue system despite the urine type smell which was my problem.

Although the car was only registered in Jan 2017 the dealer recommended an air con "bomb" which is simply an air purifier designed for air con systems and set off inside the car with the windows closed, The air con is set on recirc so the vapour is sent in and around the ducting and neutralises the bacteria which is the source of the odour. This sounds like the kit Paul mentioned in his comment earlier in the thread. This is not covered under warranty and is classed as a service related repair.

Jaguar UK advised they did not know of any issue concerning bad odours in the XE's air con system and referred me to my dealer to investigate.

Takes about 30 mins so when I go back in next week i'm hoping this will cure the odour.

There should not be any smell like this in a newish car. Sounds like something has happened to cause the 'bacteria' to grow. The dealer should investigate this. Perhaps a dead mouse or something somewhere?
I hope you get it fixed as it must spoil your enjoyment.

Despite the fact that that AdBlue is basically a urea solution it doesn't smell of urine. Its the odours given off by bacteria in urine that makes it smell. AdBlue doesn't really smell that much.
I would suggest that you have something growing in your aircon system and one of the aircon fresheners as suggested above will be worth a try.
