Air Con service/top up

Having purchased my 1991 XJS last November I have been dealing with a few minor issues over past months. Tha aircon in my car seems to work OK and I have noticed that if I put it on 'manual mode' it seems to get slightly cooler. (At my age hot flushes are an issue).
I would like to get the air con checked out or topped up as from my records it hasn't been done since new. I'm not particularly looking to get it converted to the latest gas but if possible would like it checked and topped up if necessary by an engineer who knows what he is doing!! :?

Can anyone advise me I live near Croydon S London, of who I can go to.

Blessings,

Aristocat :D

Try John http://www.airconditioningforcars.co.uk/

You sort of have a problem in that if it needs gass then R12 is not now available of course. Really the only option is to drop in R134 and a new drier. It worked well for me.

Good luck
Nick

Nick, you are not correct about that. As several people including myself have already mentioned there are refrigerants around which are a direct substitute for R12. One of these is RS24 but there are others. It is a little dearer than R134 but well worth it for the piece of mind IMO.

Just in case you not noticed it yet, there's a very good article on aircon called '.... facts not myths' by XJ-Steve

First step would be to run through the test procedure posted at http://www.skjagtech.co.uk/support-page ... pport.html
This will check out the whole A/C system, as there is far more to go wrong then just loss of refrigerant.

I have noticed that if I put it on 'manual mode' it seems to get slightly cooler
That's normal.

Tha aircon in my car seems to work OK
That's OK then
