I have been advised by my Service Technician to replace the timing chains at 49000 miles.
He said the quality of the chains on the early XE 2.0D engines was of poor quality leading to wear, then stretching, then jumping or breaking.
After all the hassle from timing issues on my old XK8 I thought the days of Jaguar Timing chain problems were behind us.
Now it seems its started again.
Does anyone else know of this or had any experience?
Cheers

Re: XE Timing Chain
There have been issues reported with the 2 litre diesel timing gear but I am not aware of any Jaguar technical bulletins containing a recommended mileage change point. If it were me, I'd be asking your mechanic for more details. Eg are my car's chains specifically showing signs of wear or stretch? He may simply be advising a cautious, 'better to be safe than sorry' approach to an issue not unknown to the workshop. Mike.
