autobox problems

Help, is there anyone who can tell me why my 82 5.3 transmission has suddenly decided not to upshift anymore. I went for a short drive, stopped after about twenty miles for a few minutes, when I pulled away, first gear only, selector works fine, park, reverse, nuetral etc, but no upshift. Any suggestions before I have to visit the garage would be most appreciated..

Incorrect fluid level
Faulty modulator
Faulty detent solenoid
Restricted exhaust system
On an '82 car I would wonder how often the fluid and filter have been changed in twenty-four years........and how much cr*p is floating around in there. There are an awful lot of tiny drillings in there....
Still perhaps its just low (or too high??) level, have you checked it or possibly sprung a leak recently?

to upshift or not upshift

Hi, thanks for the suggestion, you could be right, car has only done 27,000 miles but probably never had a gearbox oil change. Levels appear to be correct and there are no leaks. Took her out this morning to put her back in the garage and gearbox was working OK. I am not going to take any chances though, so a service is on the way. Any suggestions as to where I can source spares at a "Reasonable" price.
