XJS Auto box GM Turbo 400

Hy,
Overfilling of oil in the GM 400 auto box can cause any problem/damage for the transmission?
In 1st and 2nd Forward speed the gearbox seems to be slipping, in 3rd and Reverse it is very fine.
What can be the probleme?
