1975 pre he xjs gearbox mount spring

Postby keri » Thu Feb 16, 2017 12:02 am

Hello all has anyone purchased a gearbox support coil spring from any of the jaguar parts suppliers out there as I require a coil spring for my car it is a v12 borg warner box original part number is C19988 YELLOW they are available but are pattern parts from the usual jaguar parts specialists and I have been told by a couple of jaguar repair specialist that they are not of good quality? I would like a new one if possible the one I have fitted is not correct as when lowered the gearbox tail rests on the top of the bush causing a vibration I guess the spring is too weak as it has a pink/purple paint mark not yellow as in parts book please see attached picture you can see the top part of cotton reel bush at top yellow colour but also the spring compressed and gearbox lying on bush top anyone have any ideas.
thanks

The spring (C19988 yellow) you are looking for is common to the V12 XJ saloons fitted with the borg warner box so you might be able to get one from a breaker (usual risks apply whether a second hand spring would be better or not). Later V12s with the lighter GM box used a different part number (CAC 2327) with a black /purple marking and 6 cylinder cars were fitted with various strength springs reflecting their lighter drive trains although I don't know their colour codes. Hi, you need to put new foam bushes in as well as they turn to powder with age. I cut a rubber ring off of an old engine mounting block and sandwiched it underneath, needs a clamp to get the nut on. I found it worked OK for racing one of these. I have a mounting somewhere if you need an original one. text 07811320808 and I will have look for it.
