It is not too bad if you can get under the car OK, eg a lift. The cable is attached to the gear selector by nuts and is easy to undo if the centre console is removed. The cable goes down through the shell through a grommet on the passenger side, and attaches to the passenger side of the gearbox (UK models' side). The hard bit is getting the cable unattached from the gearbox end. You may in the end have to take off the LHS exhaust pipe to get enough access.
The hard bit is getting the outer of the cable detatched. It is held by a bracket towards the tail of the 'box, and the bolt which traps the cable outer is undone from ABOVE! You can just get a small rachet on top to undo it, going by feel, but if you cannot manage it, the tail of the box has to be dropped to get access.
