WHAT IS IHE BEST ALTERNATIVE DIFFERENTIAL OIL TO USE IN A 93 4.0 XJS WITH LSD FITTED AS SHELL SPIRAX SURER 90 IS NO LONGER AVALABLE AND THE JAGUAR TECHNICAL MANUAL SECIFIES THIS OIL ONLY WITH CASTROL EPX 80W/90 FOR TOP UP IF SHELLSPIRAX SUPER 90 NOT AVALABLE
I've always used Comma EP90 http://www.commaoil.co.uk/ with a bottle of the Jaguar diff additive added. Never had a problem in thousands of miles in either the XJ-S or the V12 Sov
Comma also advertises LS80W-90 Limited Slip Gear Oil which contains the friction modifier all in one although I have not used it personally.
Whether using one of the modern multigrades is a bad thing or better I will leave for others to discuss

DIFFERENTIAL OIL
Coincidences and wiered things keep happening to me ie, driving past Tony (dh dove) 250+ miles from his home on dual carrige way while I was at work, the day after I change my diff oil Ian Millars article in this months mag.
If anyone else is prompted to change this please be aware that if your xjs is fitted with a limited slip differential then this will require a limited slip differential oil normal ep 80/90 will not protect the clutch plates correctly see previous replys to this post.
According to the manual it should be replaced every 30k miles this of course may be Jaguar just ramping up service jobs and revenues.
Jaguar specify Shell Spirax super 90 only in the model year 91+ for uk, but in other countries Castrol epx 80/90 is specified this may be applicable to earlier cars but I am not sure of this as I am only quoting from my manual.
I did manage to buy some Shell Spirax super 90 and have about ten liters left as I will never use this much as it will last me more than 300k whoever wants some for their oil change is welcome to it for FREE but you will have to collect it from way oop north.
Best Regards Mark.
