I wonder what are the CO2 emissions of a (well maintained) 4litre XJS (1994)(convertible) and what they would be if the car was converted to LPG. The big question is whether the emissions would then be below the 225gm level which puts cars into the punitive band G ! Below this level there will probably be substantial discounts on the proposed London Emission Zone charges.
Needless to say, I live in London.
Does anybody have any insights ?

Thanks very much for the link. However, I have already been there once. That and related sites seem to provide info on the carbon emission of recent models but not older ones. But I wil go back again and see if I can learn more.
Why do you say your 1993 car will not be affected ? My understanding is that the exemption for classic cars is only for those registered before something like 1973. Or do you mean your card is emitting CO2 below the 225gm level and won't therefore be penalised ?
Cheers
John

In the compliance check it just says not subject to lez.
So I just assume the car will be exempt the same way it misses the higher bands of road tax (only 2 bands one below 1549cc and the other above).
I can only assume it would cost more to evaluate all the cars witch are pre 2001 than they would reasonably get back in revenues.

Yes, when I went into the LEZ site, I also got the reply that the XJS was not subject to .... But being of a sceptical frame of mind, I keyed in the number of a Chelsea tractor sitting outside (a BMW X5 I think) which surely would be subject to charge - and I got the same reply. I think all that the system is saying is that we are not "currently" subject to charge - but that is only because the system is not working yet !!! It's a bureaucratic form of dumb insolence !!
Lorries and buses become subject to the charge Feb 2008 and cars will be covered sometime between then and 2012. And that's all that they are saying at the moment.
And being also of a pessimistic frame of mind, I am assuming that we will be covered unless we can get below 225gm. (And even that may not be low enough in the very long term. They will probably lower the barried further.
Having said all this, I am actually in favour of the policy. I don't think we should be allowed to pollute indiscriminately and should have some motivation given to us to get the levels down. I think I'll start talking to LPG specialists and see what they say.

Dual fuel cars are exempt from the congestion charge - maybe. There are a lot of hoops to go through to comply see here
I suspect the same will apply to LEZ but its still a few years away for cars.
