High idle

Hi further to earlier posts re my P digital xjs . I have
now swapped the ecu and it fires up instantly.
Unfortunately to 2000 rpm which is a tad high .
I have screwed the adjuster on the eav right in - no
change . If I block the inlet to the eav on the air filter
back box with screwed up paper the idle drops right down -
maybe even too low. This suggests to me there are no air
leaks elsewhere ?
That is obviously not an ideal solution so any ideas how
to get the idle down properly ?
I've had the eav off and it had been stuck but after a bit
of fiddling it seemed to move properly in a pan of boiling
water.
I'm going to get this blessed car running one way or the
other !!
Thanks in advance
Scott

Hi Scotty - this does suggest that the auxiliary air valve is not working properly. Do the revs drop as the engine warms?
The adjuster that you're turning on the ecu is probably the idle mixture screw which is used to adjust the Exhaust CO. It doesn't adjust idle speed.
I wonder if the aav is still sticking open?

sounds like the EAV has stuck partially open , and the adjusting screw wont compensate for that,

refurbish or renew the EAV unit is the only option to drop the idle,

also ensure the butterflies in the TB's are no larger than 2 thou at zero throttle , and ensure the throttle rods are not pulling on said TB's at idle

hope this helps

Oops didn't word that correctly. It's the adjuster on the side of the aav I screwed right in . I did not touch the adjuster on the ecu in case I really mucked things up . I will get it up to temp later today and report back .
It did drop the revs when warm before but I left the car for some weeks in frustration so it may be sticky again.

Throtttle butterflies are ok and I removed the rods so there was no chance of them pulling . Illl see what happens on warm up and maybe have to take it off again - fiddly job with fat fingers and knackered hands lol
