Under bonnet insulation pad

Some of you may remember that I'm in the process of changing my corroded bonnet for one in better condition. It is now on, although looking odd as it's a different colour, however the next job on the list is to tackle the insulation. The photo below is the original which you can see is looking a bit rough.

The 3.6 pad is different shape to the V12, it seems to be basically a glass fibre mat similar to the headlining, a brittle biscuit type thing but has a black covering and is held in place with a combination of plates, glue and luck.

Whilst the plates have survived, the glue and luck have certainly expired. New pads are of course not available any more so two courses of action are possible. Repair or replace.

The most common available seem to have a foil covering and whilst may be perfectly ok I'm not sure about them as the HT leads will be pressing on it when the bonnet is closed. Another option would be 6mm closed cell insulation sheet which can cope with engine heat. I'm undecided on which course of action to take, originality isn't greatly important to me but I was wondering what others have used.

I have used sound insulation from Dynamat on other cars I have owned, it was very effective at reducing sound levels.

Thanks, I think Dynamat or similar will be the long term plan. To see if I could get some more life out the original, I purchased some glass fibre tissue, 1m X 2m was only a few quid and enough for two layers, and stuck them on top of the existing pad with high temperature glue.

As it is white I sprayed it with some matt black wood stove paint, the results could have been better with another can but at this stage I just want to see how it lasts. Don't look too closely at the glue overspray, the photo was taken before it was all cleaned up.
