AJ16 Misfire

Help,
My 1995 Celebration has developed an issue. I left her in to my local garage to have an a/c drier and valve fitted which was done successfully. The car had been showing 760rpm at idle before but subsequently idled at about 700rpm. In neutral she seems to hunt but under load clears and then occasionally loses power but then picks up again. There are no warning lights showing. Any ideas? The mechanic has asked me to get another coil and a set of plugs to see if that helps.

A number of things that can be checked before you start spending any money. First of all, check the spark plug wells for any oil residue. That can cause one or more plugs / coils to misfire. They should all be completely dry.

Check the coli wiring, check the vacuum hose underneath the intake elbow, check for any splits in the flexible coupling to throttle body. Check that the throttle body is completely clean on its edges and that it is gapped correctly at close.

Unfortunately I'm no mechanic. Garage has checked plug gaps and adjusted them a little but no change. I shall ask him about the oil residue.
I will be taking her to France next week. Do you think it will do any harm to drive her?
I have followed other threads on similar issues.

David, if they've checked plug gaps, they would have noticed oil buildup in the spark plug wells, so should be ok.

It's difficult to recommend if you've just got a minor problem and ok to go on a trip, without seeing or hearing the car. If it's just a minor occasional stutter, that's one thing, but if it's almost cutting out then recovering, that's a bit more concerning. The small vacuum hose that I mentioned under the elbow is a bit prone to not sealing properly, so could be worth checking.

The mechanic has checked the pipework as I have and its all good. He has also carried out a smoke test again all good.
Ive ordered some bits inc a coil from SNG Barett today.
Hopefully that should cure the issue.

She still runs like a train after 141k miles and uses no oil.

Hi David,
Ive fitted an Andy bracket a few years ago so I hope not. The garage will squeeze me in on Monday to fit the coil and plugs so I'm praying that will do it.
As an aside, the head lining is beginning to sag too. Being in Jersey options are limited but I have found a trimmer locally who has does them in the past. I've gone off script and chosen a lighter colour than original to match the slighter lighter colour of the seats and in suede too. He has the material in stock. I've also swapped the position of the hazard/rear demister switches with the interior lights for easier use and fitted a new Blaupunkt head unit.
The journey continues.

So....update on the misfire..
Plugs changed..no difference.
Coil changed..no difference.
Fuel pump replaced..bingo.
Now running like a train. As an aside the mechanic found sand in the bottom of the fuel tank! Not much but it was sitting on the bottom of the tank.We can only think that either someone put some in there or much more likely it found its way in from fuel added in Jersey where I live or Spain, Portugal, UK or France where I have been since I have owned it. All cleaned out.

Anyone seen the Insignia for sale at Iconic auctions?
