Gas pick up tank getting hot

My gas return is heating the small pick up tank and causing the pump to get hot and bog and stall the engine. The temp gauge reads between cool and normal. A/C is not working at the moment but will get it working. Car should run without A/C even on hotter days. I put a spare pump on when this happened and the car ran great until the other pump got hot.

Sorry Car is XJSC 5.3 litre v12....

A new pump has worked and fixing the A/C has improved things still more.
