I'm a U.S. member with a recently purchased XJ12C that has an HE engine and TH400 conversion. Unfortunately, the shop that did the swap charged the former owner a lot of money and did not do the complete job, as the D-jetronic, fuel rail, and original distributor are still in place. I'm attempting to determine the other components that remain from the original V12.
I plan to finish the conversion to a complete HE set up, but first I'd like to determine, as close as possible, which year XJ-S had an engine with serial number 8S81202SA.
I'd greatly appreciate if anyone can help me determine the year when this engine was produced.

HE engine serial number question
Hi Kevin,
the best contact is probably Anders Clausager, the archivist at Jaguar Heritage Trust as I think he can check records for engine numbers, whereas I can only check via chassis numbers and give a beginning and end VIN or engine number.
Anders can be contacted via the JHT at:
http://www.jdht.com/JDHT/html/Trust/contact/contact.htm
Tel: +44 24 7640 1231
Hope this helps for now, but I will check what I can glean from records I can access next week.
Regards,
JaguarMike

HE engine serial number question
Hello Kevin - California is on my mind at present having just watched the recording of the first stage of the Tour (cycling), won by our man Cavendish from the Isle of Man. Yes what Mike says is the best way to get the info you need. I rang Jaguar with an identical query and they found the answer within a few minutes. Amazing. All the best and look out for cycle riders. HE engine serial number question
Mike & Paul,
Thank you for the advice. JDHT was on my mind when I asked for member input. They are all wonderful people, who welcomed us last May when I dragged my wife from our London visit to Coventry for the day. They also informed me of the Jaguar Spares Day events, which the wife and I attended this year in March!
Thanks again,
Kevin Kinnaw

HE engine serial number question
Kevin,
Assuming your engine number is 8S081202SA (there should be a 0 before the 8 ), and that Jaguar weren't stockpiling engines too far ahead of the car production line at that time, then it was almost definitely made between Sep 1990 & Oct 1990.
Please feel free to contact me if you need any more info.
