Parcel shelf pivots..

Had cause to make room in the back of the coupe for some small boxes, so decided it would be a good idea to remove the parcel shelf thing...

Oh dear. Only one pivot in place and the other had migrated (broken) to the deep box in the bowels of the car rendering parcel shelf 'floppy'...

Had a look on Manners site and the pivots are listed as 'back order' so I ordered two, and expected a long wait BUT meantime recieved an email from a nice chap called Jack at Manners stating they were special order and would be on the way to me within 7 days! Hooray!!

This must be the time it takes to 3D print them.

They look as if they're a push fit into the tray sides, but it's not an ideal fit so I will digging out the Araldite and seeing if I can improve the situation...

Well, the 'parcel shelf pivots' supplied by Manners at @ £5.00 each (plus post) turned out to be a pair of plastic press stud thigs that the strings that hold up the parcel shelf! Absolutely no use at all.
Further research revealed that this is a common fault with F Type coupes Snapping the support pins, which as far as I can find, are only available as part of the parcel shelf support panel (L&R @ + £300 per side) The pins themselves are 'Unobtanium'....

Luckily I have access to a quality 3D printer and a friendly CAD operator so printed a pair of slightly longer pins, cut a thread on the innner part of the pin in the hope that I could easily access the inside of the plastic box section and mount the pins with Nyloc nuts.

WRONG AGAIN! There is no easy access that I can see without damaging the surrounding trim. I tried popping the various clips but could not remove the top section to gain access to the back so I put it all back together. OK, I'll do away with the nuts and mount the pins Permanantly using Araldite (original - not the Rapid rubbish). Off side pin was a good fit so only needed a wipe of araldite on the threads, N/S was quite a sloppy fit so needed a 'bit more' araldite and support with a couple of straps of masking tape. I let the Araldite cure overnight and was pleased to see that my fix had been a success! I do fear that this may only be a temporary fix and I will be working with my CAD man to design a Replaceable pin and permanent (stronger) housing.

Hi Terry, well done to you. I fear this sort of home fix is going to become a "norm" for our cars that Jaguar does not want to support going forward. The lack of proper spares support is becoming an increasing concern to folks like myself.
