VSCC event at Snetterton on Sunday 27th Sep

Postby NATONEIL » Mon Sep 21, 2015 12:51 pm

Ladies and Gentlemen

Last year 5 readers of the replica section of the bulletin board met up with our cars at the VSCC race meeting at Snetterton. The weather looks good for Sunday and should you wish to venture out then please join us.

Last year we all arrived in SS100s but it would be fun to see some of the other Jaguar based specials and replicas too. There is nothing formal but it gives us a chance to watch some good racing and have a poke about each other's cars because someone else might have dreamed up the solution to the problem you have noticed with your car. I aim to arrive a little before 10am and will, as last year wait for others in the layby before the ticket booths.

Neil,
We will be there if the weather is not too wet, the hood on the new Morgan is really good. I trust I will be allowed to park somewhere near you?
We will be doing lunch as last year, lunch is 12.00-13.00 I think so it's worth being in the "Q" about 11.50
See you Sunday ( Roy has a ticket so he will be there )

Well done everyone who made it. In all there were 7 replica / specials at the event, 6 Suffolk SS100s and a Beaman, a special made out of a MkIX and which featured in the JEC magazine earlier this year.

Sadly, Snetterton does not appear on the VSCC racing calendar for 2016, so Cadwell Park will be their only race meeting in the East.

I was at the 4th Castle Combe Autumn Classic race meeting yesterday. Their management has put together a more sustainable event by combining several historic club series (including VSCC, JEC, Healey, Aston Martin and others) in an excellent one day meeting. Like Goodwood, but without the fancy dress and fancy prices. Maybe Dr Palmer could do the same for Snetterton in place of the VSCC only event.

But the provisional calendar does include Mallory for that date, even better.

Chaps,
Despair not, I will check in the New Year with my good friend, who is a Director of the VSCC, and let you know what is happening.
Nice to see you all, goodness knows what I will be driving next year. The Memsahib and I were at A.S. Motorsports yesterday looking at replica Aston Martin DBR1.

Reg,

The ASM replica DBR1 is a very nice, well-engineered (XK-engined) piece of kit.
When are you taking delivery?

Co-incidentally - and unfortunately - the last DBR1 I saw was on the back of a lorry, after a pile-up in a race at Castle Combe.
It is DBR1/4, the car which finished second to DBR1/2 in Aston Martin's 1959 Le Mans win.
Quite badly damaged, front and rear, so it's lucky the owner is a particularly wealthy individual.

Chaps,
I spoke to my man last night re. the non appearance of the VSCC at Snetterton next year and it seems that this is the case.
The problem seems to be that Snetterton is a very expensive track to hire compared with others that the club use, each driver has to pay up to £300.00 per race. They are going to have a meeting with the owners/operators of the track to see what can be done so I will keep you informed.
If it doesn't happen, there is a rumour that there may be a Vintage Festival along the lines of the Goodwood Revival so expect to see a lot of post war cars in addition to the usual fare.

If it is a choice of Snetterton or Mallory Park I would choose Mallory every time, it is a nicer circuit, and you do not get to smell the pig farm all day.

There is perhaps better bacon in Leicestershire and you do not have to drive along the A17 to Kings Lynn to get there.
