Good Bye Reg

Readers of the whole bulletin board will have noticed that Reg has decided to forsake the charms of the bespoke Suffolk SS100 having fallen for the charms of a mass produced temptress.
For readers moving the other way, please make yourselves know on this section of the board. Most of us maintain and some have built our cars and have lots of information to share. Rest assured if you have a question no matter how silly it might seem, one of us has probably had the same question and might have found an answer.

Neil,
For one horrible moment, I thought you were going to say something nice but I need not have worried, it is business as usual.
I hope to still see all of you at some events this year, perhaps Eastern Day will be the first in the meantime I look forward to reliving the '60's, it's just a shame that that number also matches my age.

A "mass produced temptress"?

Never have I heard one described in such a wonderfully decadent way.

Enjoy Reg.

James,
I think Neil is a little envious as he can't fit into an E-type. Although I have left the faithful for pastures new ( well actually much older as the E is 1964 ) I still love the Suffolk and will always speak very highly of it, but not to Neil of course !!!!!

Hi Reg,

I notice that V&P have a nice one-owner Suffolk SS100 for sale (actually already sold!).

I'm sure you will have lots of fun with the "new" car. 8)

Cheers,

Hello Roy,
Yes, that was my baby, I think it sold within 3 days but so it should, it was a very good car and I only sold it because Richard had this superb E-Type in stock which, being a 4.2 I could actually get reasonably comfortable in.
He also did a great deal money wise which is always VERY important !! Will we be seeing you at Eastern Day or are you off to Spa with the "noisy boys"?

Hi Reg,

That's a lovely E with all those "mod-cons". :)
I look forward to seeing it sometime this year (Prescott? Snetterton?)

I'm going to Spa for the Classic, the wine and the food, if not always the weather (but that's the Ardennes for you).

Cheers,
Roy

Roy,
I thought that would be the case. Have a great time, did you get the aero screen fixed? Definitely Snetterton but hopefully somewhere else as well.

Would be interested in hearing what a superb condition Suffolk SS100 makes second hand.

We will not be going to Eastern Day, it clashes with a long weekend to the North York Moors. Hopefully the rain will stop in the next hour so that I can get up to Cadwell Park to watch classic bike racing this afternoon and then I shall get the SS out and go to The Donington Historic festival tomorrow.

Drive safely

Yes, the new type "pintle" bracket is much better than the original.

I was at Curborough yesterday and saw this well-worn 1938 3½-Litre:

Roy,
That is good news, now remember the national speed limit is based on MPH not metallic strength!!!
That SS is a good looking car but is the scuttle vent ( a la XK120 ) an original fitting?

Reg,

You know that the SS100 has its own speed limit enforced by the laws of physics.

I can't imagine why an SS100 would need any extra ventilation. It was a fairly common addition to many cars of the period, but not these. Perhaps a previous owner had hot feet!

Roy

I saw a picture of a re-bodied SS 3.5 saloon at the Warwick castle event a couple of years ago. It was in this colour but I did not keep the photo and I wonder if this is it.

There is something about the way the front and rear wings join which makes me wonder if this is not a rebuild.

Neil,

It could be, but it's fairly worn with old paint, scratches, dings, worn seats, etc.
Perhaps the poor join between the front and rear wings indicates that it hasn't been rebuilt, unlike Adrian Newey's similar car (same age, colour & capacity), rebuilt by Terry Rowing, where they line up perfectly.

I've seen it before (Silverstone 2008):
