Users of the replica boards
As we have not had any Challenger conversation in the sub board I have asked James Blackwell if we can rename the Challenger section as C Type replicas.
In addition he will take a look at why the old moderator of the XF board has appeared as the moderator of this section

Well done Neil,
You do realise that for a while it will probably be only me banging on about how great the car is, I apologise in advance !!!!!

Re: Slight change to the sub topics
Hi, Neil,
No response regarding the change of sub-section title? After an unplanned delay, I'm hoping to be back on course regarding the home-build of a Heritage C-type from Realm Engineering later this year. (I'm coming over to England next week to collect the gearbox (5-speed Toyota Supra plus adapter for the XK engine) that Realm do for this car in order that I can get on with rebuilding the engine ready for the order of the chassis/body in a few months' time.) A section regarding C-type reps would certainly be of interest to me.
Reg - I've just noticed that you replied a few months ago to the post I impudently put on the forum for real Cs and Ds and apologise for not picking up on that sooner. I did eventually get a reply from Adrian Cocking at Realm and contact has been excellent since. I went down to his workshop in Worcs. the summer before last and we discussed my requirements - I'm 6'6" tall so additional leg room is the issue - and a slightly modified space frame will be the result. I was very impressed by his operation. Apart from his work on motorcycle suspension he's now concentrating on the Heritage C-type and doesn't seem to be doing either the D-type or the Cobra any more.
Cheers,

Neil
I hope you enjoy the home build, I built most of my Suffolk and as a result have a great knowledge of how it works which gives me confidence in doing things to it. I did ask James some time ago if he would make the change to this section of the Board and have poked him again.

Re: Slight change to the sub topics
Dear Neil
I have just had a message from James to say that any future changes to this iteration of the board are unlikely owing to the changes the JEC is making to its whole online situation.
Most of the readers of this section of the board always look at any new posts so feel free to use either the general section or indeed the challenger section if you have any contributions.

Re: Slight change to the sub topics
Thanks, Neil.
Yes, I'm looking forward to the build as much as having the finished car at the end of it. I rebuilt my Mark 2 and you're right, there's nothing like having a close knowledge of your car from such work.
We have one Suffolk that lives here on the IOM and one that visits regularly - a staggeringly beautiful machine, but sadly the authenticity of its 1930s cockpit proportions mean that someone as tall (and fat) as me could never squeeze himself behind the wheel.
There shouldn't be much to say about the C-type in the next few months but if/when there is I'll stick in the 'General' subsection.
Best wishes,

Re: Slight change to the sub topics
I have heard lots of folk say that they can not fit into a Suffolk. I am 6ft 3 and a little over 19 stones (despite my best efforts) and both my wife and I fit. The problem area is the foot well, I take a size 12 and that is a challenge if I am to avoid hitting all three pedals at once. However the original SS100 had just about enough room for 2 pedals and still fitted three so that must have been very tight.

Re: Slight change to the sub topics
24 stone (my target is 18)! The C-type will be a spur to doing what the doctor has been nagging me about for ages. I take a size 14 wide shoe and that is going to be something I'll have to consider carefully with the footwell and pedal arrangements. I might have to do as a couple of female friends do and keep special 'driving shoes' in the car!

Re: Slight change to the sub topics
Manxneil,
Just like English Neil said, people generally look at the Suffolk cockpit and assume they cant fit in.
Whilst not being quite so generously proportioned as Neil, ( but much better looking ) I can confirm that there is more space than you would think although I always carried "lady shoes" for driving.
I hope the "C" works out for you and I look forward to reading about it.
