Postby Telsmoneypit » Tue Aug 08, 2006 10:04 pm

Anyone know where I can find these? I don't even know what they look like!
Even the manual doesn't let on where they are hiding.....

Problem: Both front sidelights dead. All fuses ok. Bulbs replaced - no joy. suspect BFM but can't locate!! HELP!!

Tel, I've got the manual in front of me - according to supplement A the front bulb failure module is on the relay panel on the passenger side. It looks like the bottom component on the left hand side of the panel, so should be easy to get to. If that doesn't help let me know and I'll try and get a photo of whatever is fitted in my car.

I'd check that both bulbs are properly earthed as well - is there any juice in the supply wires?

Found the module (singular) Current at B terminal, bugger all at L terminal...
Bridged B&L and Hooray! Lights work!
New BFM on the way...

Strange how something that is designed to warn you of a fault can actually be the cause......

BuggeredifIknow

Bulb Failure Module

"New BFM on the way"
May I ask how much? I seem to remember that this item was the source of much upset (and creative re-wiring) among early XJ40 owners due to its prohibitive cost to fix the sidelights for MoT.....£100+..........
Is this still the case or have Jaguar seen the light? (or have you gone for an aftermarket item at more reasonable cost?)

Mr Pigeon, :D , the thing cost me £7 from DM PLUS VAT and postage. Even so, I am still solvent...
I think the 'silly money' BFM's were priced at £47 which is still cheaper than £100 apiece!!

I still don't understand why we need them though. Surely a walk round the car with lights on would tell you if they were working or not :?:

Or are we Jaguar owners just lazy bast*rds??

Why isn't there a warning light to tell us when the bulb failure warning light isn't working
What I would have really liked is a warning buzzer to tell me when I've left the lights on accidentally and a warning light to tell me that the lights are on.

I suppose at the time this was all new technology which we take for granted today, could be easily installed though, others have done so already.

a warning buzzer to tell me when I've left the lights on accidentally

Wasn't that difficult I found, for all my cars I prepare a buzzer and diode in series, I then connected the red wire side to a light circuit fuse and the black wire side to any fuse that is live when key is turned. If I turn off key when lights still on the buzzer sounds, until I turn them off as well. (The diode prevents current flowing the other way when lights are off and key on.) Don't half save the battery!
