Can anyone help please.
The passanger door mirror on my 1995 car has stuck! It only moves a small amount in any direction. How do I get behind the glass, to get at the motors !!!

Hi again Pete
The movey-round mirror glasses are attached on inside by spherical pop-stud type things, by gingerly levering the edge of the glass with a screwdriver they (3) can be unpopped one at a time. I'm always scared of cracking the mirror glass doing it, but clench my teeth and try not use undue force, whatever that is I haven't found how much breaks it yet. Then when unpopped, there's still a heater wire connected to a fragile-looking flexible circuit thing which is unpluggable, again gingerly.
Then the motors underneath you'll find are completely sealed units, but waggling the mirror joystick you see something happening.
Putting back together theres a trick, you operate the control to make the spherical socket things stick out the furthest, then dob a bit of grease on each one and pop mirror glass back.

Hi all,
I need to replace one of my door mirror inserts as well.
I assume the process as described by Mark is still valid for a late XJS.
Any other hints how to remove the glass without destroying it?
Use of a heat gun to remove the mirror glass from it's plastic back should not be necessary, no?
Thanks,
Peter.

Peter,
Try and tape or wire up a piece of thin ply the same size as the face of the glass, on the front. Then when you carefully lever the mirror off the ball studs, it can help to maintain the rigidity of the glass and not twist and shatter it.
Good luck
Paul

Try cleaning the control switches first; they get gummed up and don't make full contact throughout the movement.
