Hi.
Could anybody tell me where the fibre optic light source is for the heater controls please?
I have 1986 3.6 manual vin 135303.
Thanks, Mark

It is under the "ski slope" on the transmission tunnel, its a bit of a faff getting at/finding all the screws that hol the veneer down, but it's underneath it.
P.S I dont think your VIN is right, I think they start at about 139000. (But don't quote me on that!)

All,
Maybe the vin is ok my HE has the opticell and I am 122, the light emitting from my optics is poor too, I was considering exchanging the weedy bulb in the opticell for a LED see if that works. I know there are kits out there to convert/improve the performance, but gonna try the cheap way first.

As far as I know, all 3.6s have the fibre optic unit. Early 3.6s from VIN 112xxx until 134285 use the simpler 2 colour unit. Later 3.6s after 134286 use the 4 colour unit. Both units are still available from Jaguar.

Just thought regarding this post, but how about fitting a hi powered Led as the light source if you were repairing/replacing.
They are low voltage and low current and also produce very little if any heat.

Re: Fibre optic light source
I recon LEDs are better as you say they give off hardly any heat and draw hardly any current, also there are bi colour and tri colour I think and depending on the voltage applied they can be made to display a different colour (might be interesting). Not to sure how they would react with the dimmer control though? are LEDs dimmable?
