Removing Headlamp Wipers

Hi

I am trying to remove a headlamp on my car so that I can dry it out - it has some condensation in it - look at the seal and hopefully prevent any condensation from returning.

I have the Jaguar Repair Operation Manual and it covers removing the chrome surround and then the headlamp. However, it assumes that you do not have headlamp wipers fitted - and nowhere in the manual can I see any instructions as to how to remove these. I need to remove them so that I can remove the chrome headlamp surround - and then get at the headlamp itself.

The problem is that the headlamp wipers have two “axles” coming out through the chrome surround - meaning that the only way that the chrome surround will be able to be removed is by removing the main wiper mechanism from the “axles” so that the chrome surround can be slid forwards. Hopefully the picture below illustrates what needs to be done.

Does anyone have any advice as to how to remove the main section of the wipers from the two “axles”, please? Is it hidden somewhere in the ROM? I would always rather ask and think about a problem rather than risk damaging my car by charging at a job like a bull!

Hi Peter - the headlamp wipers are like a small version of the main wipers and secured in a similar way.
There is a cover over the nut that holds the wiper arm onto the 2 shafts. Pull back the covers and you’ll see the nuts. remove those and you can pull the wiper arms off the splined shafts. It may need a bit of releasing fluid and gentle persuasion.
