window motors + flasher relay

Postby HarryT » Mon Mar 02, 2009 1:16 am

Does anyone know how/ where I might purchase a new motor for my window (drivers side)
Also it appears difficult to get hold of an appropriate flasher relay.
I have tried SNG Barratt.... still waiting for an answer.
Want to take for a run to Holland and would like it perfect by the end of the month.
feel free to use my email: temminh@wmin.ac.uk

HarryT,

I wasn't aware that there was a problem purchasing the window motor for an 88 coupe. Is your local dealer saying that they are currently out of stock? The Jaguar website would seem to indicate that they are available at £127 + vat. Remember to politely ask your dealer for some JEC discount. You should be able to easily get 10%.

Genuine Jaguar headlamp dip relays seem to be unavailable for 88 cars at present. I suspect that you'll need to look for a pattern part or altternatively source a used part for that.

Good luck

A lot of '88s and thereabouts used an alloy bodied motor which IMO is a bit weak for the job, OK when everything was new, but with a little wear in everything over the years they struggle.

A good replacement is one of the black round motors as used on the MkIII XJ6. They can be had for a couple of quid, but make sure you get one with the regulator attached as you need the bush that comes with it. It doesn't matter which side you buy as you will be using your existing regulator. On the XJ6 the fronts are the same as the rears, but the rears will be in better condition as the windows would have had a lot less use.
