Hi all been trying (without much success) to obtain a replacement (actually additional as I only have 1) remote locking/alarm key fob 418Mhz for 1996 Celebration 4.0litre - SNG Barrett list it but after ordering told me it was no longer available and did not offer a substitute - any solutions would be helpful - eBay has one which looks like it was half eaten by somebody's pet dog and all for the bargain price of £40! Thanks - steve

If you can find one with working internal parts there was someone one ebay selling new cases. Its an easy job then to take the electronics out of a broken fob and put them into a new case.

Hi Steve
Did you find a remote fob in the end?

Solved - bought second hand 413Mhz looking worst for wear and a new fob as sold in USA and basically swopped the innards from the old battered one into new one - now all I have to do is programme it to the car...........

Just checking as I have a new one here I would have sent to you - I gave up trying to get it programmed as no-one seemed to be able to do so (Jaguar included) and eventually KWE fitted an aftermarket alarm to mine (although my whole central locking also needed an overhaul).

Thanks for the thought Richard - I found some posts that describe the manual reprogramming or pairing the key fobs to the alarm system - involving dismantling the glove box to get at a couple of wires that were used as the valet switch connection - it requires some switching on and off of the ignition and some deft application of activating and deactivating the valet switch circuit (which was for some reason removed in later cars....) wish me luck - when I get to it I will post on how it all went....

Yep, good luck Steve. It's a dark art I reckon.

I found a 'valet' switch on eBay which I wired into the 2 wires you talk about and fitted into the console, then easy to do the switch on/off stuff to reprogram the key fobs. Definitely a black art, seemed to be a mix of all the various sequences, I eventually go there but if you asked me I could not say exactly what the sequence was in the end that worked!

I had a similar challenge with my XJ40 (1994). I found a used fob on ebay - be sure to get the right frequency fob - and attempted to pair to the car. All I proved was how to set the alarm off! The XJ40 had the valet switch in the centre console glove/tape box. I gave up as the info I found on the internet did not work for my car. My independent Jag specialist (MDM Jaguar Services) soon had it paired though.
