Passenger door mirror

Postby Mackie » Fri Mar 23, 2018 7:52 pm

The door mirror on the passenger side is not responding to the joystick. My first thought is “OH MY GOD I HAVE TO TAKE OFF THAT BLOODY DOOR CARD WHICH WAS A NIGHTMARE TO PUT BACK LAST TIME”

Is it likely the connectors inside have come loose? Should that be the first thing I check?

Thanks.

Unusual to be totally dead, the mirror has two motors one for vertical and one for horizontal. Usually motors in one direction only and won't reverse due to corroded contacts in the switch itself.

Check the joystick switch connectors, they sometimes come apart with vibration but a small cable tie solves that problem.

First thing to try is to remove the mirror body (2 cross head screws on the outside of the car) which should allow you to get at the connector blocks. Check that you're getting voltage to them as appropriate. You will need a glamorous assistant for this unless your arms are 8' long. Get said assistant to operate the joystick whilst you test for a voltage.
Most likely you have one so clean the contacts and remake the connections using a thin cable tie wrapped around to keep the contacts tight. I thought I'd done on your car for that for just that reason?
I don't think you'll need to take the door cards off. You should be able to reach all the connections by taking the door mirrors and joystick surround off.
